Deli Style Sprinkle Cookies
Deli Style Sprinkle cookies. The type of cookie you see in a deli and order to go with your sandwich as a sweet treat for after. Always large and covered with an excessive amount of sprinkles. I realized I did not have a sprinkle cookie recipe on my blog and I obviously had to change that. These are probably my favorite cookies ever and I’m delighted with the outcome of my rendition of them. I’ve recently gotten into adding an extra egg yolk specifically to my sugar cookie-based recipes (such as this one and my cereal cookies) because I’ve found that the fattiness from the yolk makes them extra chewy. The extra fat also adds a richness in flavor that I find helps bring out the best in sugar cookies. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I did.. but I know you won’t. I’m about to change my TikTok username to sprinklecookieluver I SWEAR!
Why measure with your heart?
You may see in my recipes that I do not provide a measurement for vanilla and occasionally for other ingredients. I like to allow you as much creative freedom as possible without destroying the recipe. I trust your instincts. Now obviously don’t go and pour the entire bottle of vanilla in your batter, but it’s not one of those ingredients you have to be super meticulous with. If I don’t measure it why should you?
For a pinch of salt I pour the salt in my hand and use my pointer finger and thumb to pinch, then add it to my bowl.
All of my recipes are written as I do them.
From a young age, my mom used to always get on me for not following recipes to a T, but as I got older I realized that the creative freedom I gave myself fueled my love for baking. In the kitchen I allow my mind to wander and test the limits of each recipe. Sometimes resulting in disaster but more often than not resulting in a delicious outcome.
One Bowl for wet and dry ingredients ???
I know! Crazy right?! In recipes, to minimize the number of dishes I have to do at the end of the night I tend to do everything in one bowl. Recipes usually tell you to mix dry and wet ingredients separately so you don’t accidentally overmix your batter. Feel free to combine the dry ingredients separately if your heart truly desires. Just make sure dry ingredients are fully incorporated before continuing to the next step. If you are nervous about overmixing you can also use a spatula to fold the dry ingredients into the wet; that generally helps me.
Prep Time: 10 mins | Chill time: 10mins | Bake time: 12 mins | Yeild: 6 Large Cookies
Ingredients:
3/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup softened room temp butter
1 egg
1 egg yolk
vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups flour
pinch salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup sprinkles ( + 1 cup for rolling)
Instructions:
Cream Butter and Sugar: In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar on medium speed for about 3 minutes until light and fluffy.
Add Wet Ingredients: Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Mix well until the mixture is creamy and smooth.
Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Add the dry ingredients and gently fold them in using a spatula until just combined.
Shape Dough: Using a regular cookie scoop, scoop out two dough balls and roll them together with your palms to form one large dough ball.
Roll in Sprinkles: Roll each large dough ball in a cup of sprinkles (you may need more, so keep extra sprinkles handy). Place the coated dough balls on a prepared baking sheet.
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Chill Dough: Chill the dough balls in the fridge while the oven preheats. This should take about 10 minutes.
Bake Cookies: Bake the cookies in batches of three to give them ample room to spread. (While the first batch bakes, keep the remaining dough balls in the fridge.) Bake for 13-15 minutes, depending on your oven.
Add Extra Sprinkles (Optional): As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, sprinkle additional sprinkles on top and gently press them into the cookies to fill any gaps from spreading. (For a visual guide, watch my video.)
Cool and Enjoy: Allow the cookies to cool completely on the baking sheet before enjoying!
